Root canal treatment in Chittorgarh
A tooth that throbs at night, hurts when you bite, or stays sensitive long after you've finished your tea usually has an infected or inflamed nerve inside it. A root canal treatment cleans out that infection so you can keep your own tooth instead of losing it.
Most people who come to us with toothache feel much better after the first sitting.
When you might need a root canal
- Toothache that wakes you up at night
- Pain that lingers after something hot or cold
- Pain when you bite or chew on one side
- Swelling in the gum or face, or a small pimple on the gum near a tooth
- A tooth that has turned dark after an injury
- A deep cavity or a broken tooth that has reached the nerve
Sometimes an infected tooth doesn't hurt at all and only shows up on an X-ray. That's one reason regular check-ups matter.
What happens during the treatment
- 1 Check-up and X-rayWe examine the tooth and take an X-ray to see the roots, how far the infection has spread and whether the tooth can be saved.
- 2 NumbingThe area is numbed with local anaesthesia before we start, so you feel pressure rather than pain.
- 3 Cleaning the canalsWe open the tooth, remove the infected nerve, and clean and shape the canals with rotary instruments, which are quicker and more precise than hand files.
- 4 Filling and sealingThe cleaned canals are filled and sealed so bacteria can't get back in.
- 5 Cap (crown)A tooth weakens after a root canal and can crack. For most back teeth we recommend a cap to protect it.
One visit or more?
If the infection is limited, the whole root canal can often be finished in one sitting. If there's swelling, a lot of infection or the canals are difficult, we split it into two or three visits and place medicine inside the tooth in between. We'll tell you which applies to you at the first visit.
After the treatment
- Some soreness for two or three days is normal. Take the medicines we prescribe.
- Avoid chewing hard food on that side until the cap is fitted.
- If the swelling or pain gets worse instead of better, call us.
- Get the cap done on time. Putting it off is the most common reason a treated tooth breaks.
Common questions
Does a root canal hurt?
The tooth is numbed first, so most people feel pressure rather than pain. The pain people link with root canals is usually the infection itself, and the treatment is what relieves it.
Wouldn't it be simpler to remove the tooth?
Keeping your natural tooth is almost always better for chewing and for the teeth around it. A gap usually needs a bridge or an implant later. We suggest extraction only when a tooth can't be saved.
How long does a root canal treated tooth last?
With a well-fitting cap and normal brushing, a treated tooth can last many years. Regular check-ups help us catch any problem early.
Can I go to work after the treatment?
Yes. Most people get back to their normal routine the same day.
